The Secretary General of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Visits the Headquarters of the National Committee

Wamkele Mene, Secretary General of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), paid an official visit to the AfCFTA National Committee at its headquarters in Abidjan Cocody, Deux Plateaux on Tuesday, 27 July 2021.

The visit included a working session at the National Committee's headquarters. Wamkele Mene expressed his admiration for Côte d'Ivoire’s significant progress and growing role as a leader in the implementation of the AfCFTA. He commended the National Committee for its efforts in operationalizing the Agreement at the national level. Concluding the session, the Secretary General invited Côte d'Ivoire to present its advancements in implementing the Agreement at the upcoming senior trade officials’ meeting in August, positioning the country as an exemplar for others.

Wamkele Mene was joined by Mrs. Joséphine Charlotte Mayuma Kala, representative of the Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission, and H.E. Tiemoko Moriko, Côte d'Ivoire's Ambassador to Ghana.

Mrs. Fatoumata Fofana, Executive Secretary of the AfCFTA-NC, expressed her gratitude to the Secretary General for his commitment to the AfCFTA and for his support demonstrated through this visit. She noted that the meeting served as an encouragement to the Ivorian government to maintain its leadership and dedication to trade integration within the region.

Wamkele Mene's visit to Côte d'Ivoire is part of a series of significant engagements planned during his official tour.
