Promotion of Women’s and Youth Participation in Cross-Border Trade and Entrepreneurship

Project Description In Côte d'Ivoire, women and youth play an essential role in trade, making a significant contribution to the production of exportable goods, whether as stakeholders in cross-border trade or as managers and owners of businesses involved in such trade. Many Ivorian women and youth have found cross-border trade a way out of precarious living conditions. The key role they play in trade and the Ivorian economy highlights the need to give them a central place if the country is to exploit its trade potential to the full. The main aim of this project is to promote the participation of women and youth in cross-border trade and entrepreneurship.
Objectives - Develop public initiatives to improve women's access to finance - Strengthen women's organisations and groups in particular - Help women to formalise their informal activities
Targets Women
Priority actions - National consultations with women to identify their specific trade needs
- Seminars to build managerial and financial capacity
- Encourage credit institutions to finance women through appropriate financing programmes
Expected results - Women's capacities are strengthened. - Women have access to appropriate financing - Women's cross-border trade is facilitated
